Knitting Tips & Tricks

How to Keep Your Interchangeable Needles Attached

Some knitters have tried interchangeable knitting needles and don’t like them. From what I’ve seen, one of the most common reasons is due the cord and the needle tip coming apart from each other. Has that happened to you? You’re happily knitting along and all of a sudden your yarn gets caught up in the join between the knitting cord and the needle. Or worse yet, you lose all your stitches off the cord! I have one super easy and inexpensive trick that solves this common interchangeable knitting needle problem.

Marl that yarn!

Every wonder how to marl yarn?

Marling. It’s a yarn craze that’s still very popular. Have you marled your yarn yet? What is marling? Marling isn’t a pattern or a stitch. It’s more like a color system for working with your yarn to get a blended effect. Think of a gradient. You can use it on most any stitch pattern. And it’s less complicated than it sounds. The above is a knit blanket that I made many years ago. I used 4 worsted weight yarns held together. But you don’t have to be crazy like me.

A Knitting Quest Into Cowls – Part 2

Originally, I designed and knit a cowl that was short and worn close to the neck. It would use the same gorgeous, watery lace pattern as the Ocean Home Shawl. However, when I put it on, all the beautiful lace vanished in a crumpled heap of fabric. Disappointment didn’t last long as I decided to accept the challenge before me. To create a cowl that could fully display the lace.

Avery Shores Cowl

Is this cowl right for you?

You’re gonna love wearing and knitting the Avery Shores Cowl. It looks like a big gorgeous shawl in the front, but surprise – it’s not. It’s so much easier to wear and style than a shawl.

I have spent so much time trying to get a traditional triangle shawl to look good. I can do it, but it takes me awhile and it can get frustrating. That’s one good reason I and my knitters love to wear bandana cowls like the Avery Shores Cowl. Just put it on. No need to fuss with it.

A Knitting Quest Into Cowls – Part I

Come along with me on a knitting quest. First stop is the Swirling Seas Infinity Cowl.

In the previous post I told you that I’m on a knitting quest. An accidental quest for sure. Here’s the quick recap (or read the full post here):

My plan was simple, until it wasn’t. Create a cowl that uses the same gorgeous, watery lace as the Ocean Home Shawl. It would be a short close-fitting cowl that would be quick to knit. (You can read the backstory to the Ocean Home Shawl here in a blog post.)

A Knitting Journey Into Cowls

Come along with me on a knitting quest.

I’m on a knitting quest. Although, it sure didn’t start out that way. My plan was simple, until it wasn’t. Create a cowl that uses the same gorgeous, watery lace as the Ocean Home Shawl. Just like the shawl, my new cowl would recreate  the motion of the water with lace and call up my feelings of home. It would be a short close-fitting cowl that would be quick to knit. (You can read the backstory to the Ocean Home Shawl here in a blog post.)
